Purpose: The purpose of this study, was to identify the perception of the guardians about the binocular vision function and suggest the necessity of education about guardians with their child¡¯s binocular vision anomalies.
Methods: From april to december of 2016, elementary, junior high and high school students with the myopia were selected for refractive error, binocular sensory function, and visual function test respectively. Also, questionnaires were used to investigate the subjective symptoms of the binocular vision function and understanding of the guardians with their child¡¯s visual statue and vision training programs.
Results: In a total of 72 students, 19(26%) subjects had the diplopia even wearing their glasses, but 19 of their guardians did not recommend the binocular vision treatment or vision training programs. The overall questionnaires results of the guardians about the vision training, 60(83%) of the guardians indicated that would not recommend even their child have symptoms. Only 11(15%) of all the guardians knew about the vision training, 62(86%) responded that they helped with visual learning disabilities, but there were only 2(3%) who had received information from the child¡¯s school. Also, 46(64%) guardians were positive, 20(27%) were neutral, and 6(9%) were negative about the vision training.
Conclusion: Although the student had visual function anomalies, there was no guardian to recommend treatment which lacked the concept of guardian¡¯s vision function anomalies, and this means that they are not aware of the importance of treatment. But the guardians thinks that vision training is helpful for visual learning disabilities, but there is little opportunity for information, so their perception is low. For this reason, this study suggests that the education and information about visual anomalies and the vision training should be provided to the guardians.
